Alonso Cuesta winery

Located in the town of La Torre de Esteban Hambrán (Toledo), it sits on a 16th century palace.
Alonso Cuesta is a family winery, with more than 100 years of history, always guided by the love of its vineyard to get wines of the highest quality. The first winery dates back to 1920.
In the year 2000, the update changes necessary to revitalize the warehouse take place. With the new production systems, the winery is reformed with the latest technological advances.
However, the management of the winery, currently guided by Juan Alonso Cuesta, tells us that they continue to elaborate their wines with great respect for natural processes.

The vineyards

The vineyards owned by the winery, are located in the municipality of Camarena and La Torre de Esteban Hambrán, at an altitude of 600m and in the basins of the Alberche and Tajo rivers.
In these vineyards, various varieties of grapes are made, such as:
Inks: Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot and Petit Verdot
White: Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc.
The Garnacha variety is the variety that reigns in the Méntrida origin denomination, and in some cases the age of the vineyard is greater than 70 years.
Type of soil: sandy loam of granitic origin.
Deep respect for traditional agriculture. Pruning in winter and spring pruning in green. If necessary, harvest is done in green before veraison.

The wines

In Alonso Cuesta, both red wines and white wines are produced.
Red wines
Alonso Cuesta unites tradition and innovation in its wines, always seeking the best use of its vineyards, and the balance of its products.

Activities

In addition to the production of its wines, this winery carries out various activities aimed at spreading the philosophy of wine and the enjoyment of its products.
During our visit to the winery, Blanca de Castro Tornero, who is responsible for the relations and communications of the winery, tells us about the various activities that take place there.

These are:

-Course of Initiation to the Wine Tasting: it is a 120-minute course, where 5 different wines of the different grapes are tested.
-Visit to the winery: it is carried out from Monday to Friday between 10, 30 and 12 o’clock in the morning and at 4.30 o’clock in the afternoon. To make the weekend visit it is necessary to call previously.
The visit, given the location of the winery, is almost forced by the beauty of its enclaves.
-Visit and Special Tasting: combines the two previous activities, and adds the gastronomic products of the land, such as cheese and sausages.
