The DOP Viñedos de Alava paralyzed.
Alava Vineyard Designation of Origin
The European Union has paralyzed the approval of the DOP Viñedos de Alava at the expense of the Spanish government giving the project a green light.
The DOP Viñedos de Alava is a new Denomination of Origin for wines made from grapes grown in the Rioja Alavesa, between the Ebro River and the Sierra Cantabria.
This Denomination has the approval of the Basque Government, but the European Union has withheld it until the Spanish government gives the green light to the project, something that currently has not happened.
Viñedos de Alava may not use the term "Rioja Alavesa" because it is a protected trademark owned by Rioja.
