White Wine is characterised by its light colouring, with a predominance of yellow tinged with a wide range of green or golden tones. The colour of the wine depends on its age; the younger the wine is the paler it will be, while older wines display a deeper, almost golden colour. The best Spanish white wines are characterised by a bright orange or coppery colouring.
The aromas of a wine are produced by the grape, whose characteristic scent are usually either citrus in nature, similar to pineapple and guava; herbal, like asparagus or lemon leaf or Flowery such as jasmine, orange blossom. The one prominent characteristic throughout all white wines, is its acidity, which explains its freshness and why we tend to prefer it during hot days, served at a low temperature of 6-12° C.
The category of wine will largely depend on the aging in the barrel or bottle, and the offering ranges from young wines, to “crianza”, “reserva” or “gran reserva”. It is important to take note of these labels prior to purchase.
