The land of the Penedès is wide and open and extends along a wide strip of land between sea and mountains, halfway between Barcelona and Tarragona. Within this natural setting, wines, selected from the best vineyards in the area.
Zones:
At the heart of the Catalan pre-coastal depression between the Cordillera Prelitoral and small plains of the Mediterranean coast, mature vines of the Penedès. Three distinct areas are the DO: Penedès Superior (near the Cordillera Prelitoral), the Maritime Penedès (by the sea and in the coastal mountain range) and the Central Penedès (between each area).
Microclimas:
The Penedès has a great diversity of microclimates, a result of its coastline and its proximity altitude. The climate is typically Mediterranean, ie, soft and warm. Maritime area Penedès (Baix Penedès and Garraf) is tempered by the influence and proximity to the sea. The Upper Penedès (Alt Penedès, Alt Camp, Baix Llobregat and Anoia) has more precipitation and higher contrast between maximum and minimum temperatures.
