The very positive development of wines with a Denomination of Origin from DO Somontano is explained by its strong commitment to excellence. The land mass where Somotano vineywards are located is comprised of three distinct areas: the mountains, the plains and Somontano. Its total area is 200,000 hectares of which about 100,000 are cultivated. Of these, 4,400 acres are devoted exclusively to vineyards.
Somontano wines are produced from a large variety of grapes found in these 4,400 hectares of vineywards and form the basis for the great wines found in the region; which include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache, Moristel, Parraleta, PinotNoir, Chardonnay, Macabeo, SauvignonBlanc, Garnacha Blanca, Riesling or Alcañón to name a few.
Somontano is characterized by cold winters and hot summers with major changes in temperature taking place at the end of spring and autumn. The average annual temperature is 11 degrees Celsius.
Somontano wines have very special characteristics: high quality alcohol, fruity and optimal acidity. In short, these wines are highly suited to current tastes. To acquire a wine from Somontano is a sure bet on exclusivity and faith in its exceptional qualities.
