DO Monterrei wines

In the middle of the last century, Monterrei was an area where large volumes of excellent quality wine were produced. Proof of this was the presence in the region of important wineries, which had stone presses and large oak barrels.

At the beginning of the 60's, the Cooperativa de Monterrei winery was built, with the aim of promoting the correct elaboration of the wines and their subsequent commercialization.

At the end of the 20th century, the emigration, the closure of the cooperative winery and the abandonment of the land, given its low profitability, almost means the disappearance of the vineyard in the area, but the administrative recognition of the Denomination of Origin and the approval of its regulation (by Order of November 25, 1994), as well as the commitment to quality wines, led to the resurgence of the region.
