In 1870 grape phylloxera devastated the French and including vineyards, the Barbier family. In the wine-producing areas, wages were halved, businesses collapsed, and much of the population emigrated to other countries, such as Spain.
For this reason, Léon Barbier, son of vineyard owners in the region of Avignon, is installed in Catalonia, his company settled in 1880 in Tarragona.
Léon Barbier was the first to sell their wines in bottles. He applied his knowledge of the treatment of grapes, according to the French tradition, climate and Catalonia. He realized that with the use of Spanish varieties, could obtain high quality wines with unquestionable personality and get a great success. His son René strengthened the quality of wines and distributed worldwide. The results were magnificent red wines, white and rose wines of the highest quality. It is worth mentioning its famous wines cabernet and chardonnay, white and pink, and youth and reserve reds.
