The approval by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Empordà-Costa Brava Designation of Origin for Empordà wines (Order of 19 May 1975, published in Official Gazette No 153 of 27 June 1975) Official recognition that these wines have achieved, after many years, levels of prestige and quality sufficient to compete in the market with wines from other sources.

This was an old aspiration of the vintners of the region, who began the processing of the DO in the early 60's, being decisive for obtaining this legal situation the firm will of processors and bottlers.

The Regulatory Council ensures compliance with the Regulations, controlling the whole process of production and elaboration of wines with DO Empordà to guarantee its origin and quality. It also promotes technical studies, with special emphasis on stimulating the production of quality wines.
