Located within the Rioja DO, a designation that dates back to the late 19th century but was not officially established until 1925. The area covered by this designation of origin encompasses the autonomous communities of La Rioja and the Basque Country.
The grapes produced in this appellation are: Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo, Graciano, and Maturana Tinta.
