The origin of Montecillo is found in Fuenmayor, one of the towns with the longest wine-growing tradition in Rioja Alta. Surrounded by vineyards and very close to the waters of a serene and benefactor river, the majestic Ebro, the environment of Fuenmayor is framed by hillocks and, beyond, by the distinctive rocky mass of the Sierra de Cantabria.
The people of our town, Fuenmayor, in Rioja Alta, have always known about the unique wine-growing quality of "El Montecillo". It is the beautiful place that gave many years to our winery's name and that today symbolizes a vocation and character: in the vineyard is the origin and foundation of who we are.
The tenacious and grateful nature, which reaches its maximum expression thanks to a deep experience of aging in barrels and bottles. All this is in the genes of the third oldest winery in Rioja: Bodegas Montecillo.
